Dr. Ashok Kumar Vaid

Dr. Ashok Kumar Vaid is Chairman of the Medanta Cancer Institute, Medanta – The Medicity, Gurugram, and a Padma Shri awardee. A distinguished medical oncologist, he holds the unique distinction of having started one of the largest stem-cell transplant programs in the private sector in North India. He was awarded his DM in Medical Oncology from The Tamil Nadu Dr. MGR Medical University, Chennai, in 1993, and brings more than 32 years of clinical expertise with special interest in cancer genomics, immunotherapy guidance, precision onco-therapeutics, dendritic-cell therapy, and stem-cell transplant.

He has authored numerous peer-reviewed articles and has participated as Principal Investigator in over 60 international and national clinical studies. A registered post-graduate teacher with the National Board of Examinations and a university examiner for the super-specialty course in Medical Oncology, he is a founder member of the Indian Cooperative Oncology Network and a member of professional bodies including ESMO, ISMPO, and the Indian Society of Oncology. His career is marked by the Padma Shri, which he received from the President of India in 2009 for his outstanding contributions to the medical field, and by the Lifetime Achievement Award of the Indian Society of Medical & Paediatric Oncology in 2023.
